On some computers every time you start your game you get the following message:

Quote :
Your computer appears to have changed since the last time you ran Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Would you like the game to configure itself optimally for your new hardware?

This is recommended for most people. It will change your system settings but not your controls.

This happens mostly on Windows Vista and Windows 7. After every time I started my game and kept getting this message it became rather aggravating. So I finally figured out to get rid of it.

  • Go into C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare

  • Open the file localization.txt with a text editor. As always back it up before you do anything.

  • In the lines 44 through 54 you should see this:

    Code:
    WIN_COMPUTER_CHANGE_BODY
"Your computer appears to have changed since the last time you ran Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Would you like the game to configure itself optimally for your new hardware?

This is recommended for most people.
It will change your system settings but not your controls."

    WIN_COMPUTER_CHANGE_TITLE
    "Set Optimal Settings?"

  • Remove this code from it and save it.

This does not conflict with PunkBuster as it's a personal setting and not really modifying the game itself.

All credit goes to Phantom247.

hey...i deleted win_computer_change body in localization.txt.

first it worked fine, no more messages.
but since some time, i get the message window again.
now its just a blank small window with titel "win_computer_change body" and options
"yes" or "no". although, localization.txt does not contain this part at all anymore.

so, the query is not disabled with just deleting this part from localization.txt.

any ideas???
